

Sr. Mary Anne Kruer, OSB (formerly Anna Rosalie) died at St. Paul Hermitage on July 1, 2011. She was 93 years old. Sr. Mary Anne was one of 10 children born to John and Anna (Koopman) Kruer in Navilleton, IN on July 16, 1917. She entered Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, IN on April 2, 1934 and made her Perpetual Monastic Profession on August 10, 1939. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Grace Monastery. Sr. Mary Anne began her teaching career in 1938 working in several schools in southern Indiana. In 1971 Sr. Mary Anne changed careers and entered the field of healthcare. She was nursing home activities director in Clarksville, IN and went on to care for infirmed sisters at the monastery. Sr. Mary Anne was also a wonderful seamstress and was widely known for her beautiful hand stitched quilts.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, July 6th, at St. Paul Hermitage, from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM. Reception of the body will take place at Our Lady of Grace Monastery at 3:00 PM with viewing until 8:00 PM. A wake service will take place at 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be on Thursday, July 7th, at 4:00 PM with viewing from 2:00 PM until the funeral. Her parents and five siblings preceded her in death. Her sisters, Bertha “Birdie” Hoehn, New Salisbury, IN, Dorothy Freiders, Mt. Airy, MD, her brothers Ed and John Kruer both of Floyds Knobs, IN, several nieces and nephews and her religious community survive her. Contributions in memory of Sr. Mary Anne may be made to the Sister’s Retirement Fund, c/o Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 1402 Southern Avenue, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107. Little and Sons Funeral Home have been entrusted with the arrangements.
