Barbara was my dearest friend. She and I loved to go shopping together. We were mighty bargain hunters in days past. Barbara and I spent many hours bicycling in our neighborhoods and in Bellaire. We also took exercise classes together. Barbara was much more agile than I, and she learned the routines faster than most. In my moments of stress, Barbara would listen, nod her head, and just be there for me.

Barbara was kind, patient, and devoted to her family. She was also remarkably creative which was expressed in fabric art and in sewing unique pieces of clothing.

I will always miss my dearest friend. I am lucky to have had Barbara in my Life! Barbara's family has my deepest sympathy during this most difficult time.

Love, Doris Gottenberg

Our family lived next door to Mr. & Mrs. Hawkins on Wigton Dr., from the day the Hawkins family moved in until 1999, when our Dad passed away. I remember it was loads of fun, growing up next door to a family with 5 kids (we had 6!), and I remember so vividly the friendship between Marian & Boyd and Joe & Barbara. And, I remember after Mom died, Barbara & Joe going out of their way to be there for Dad, to give him space to grieve and yet also to include him so that he would not waste away or feel lonely - especially on New Year’s Eve when they would include him in their annual dinners at McCormack & Schmick and in champagne toasts at midnight back on Wigton Dr. Dad would always come back home happy as could be, a little more lighthearted! To Joe and the entire Hawkins family, thank you for welcoming all of us (and especially for helping Dad after Mom died) into your family and for your decades of friendship with our whole family. How lucky we were! Your Mom will not be forgotten. ❤️
