Joslin, I remember meeting your dad at a Jung Brannen event and found him to be an absolutely charming an elegant man.  I was so sorry to hear if his passing.  Love to you, your mom and family.

I was so sorry to hear of "Britten's" dad passing away. I've never met him or his wife, Donna, but I loved reading a little of his life. What an extraordinary man...I wish I could have met him! My thoughts go out to his whole family during this difficult time.

When I remember Dan, I smile.  I am one of his coffee friends, and he never ceased to amaze me with his ready laugh, easy smile & the breadth of his knowledge - architecture (of course), non-fiction books, classical music, paintings!  And he was such a sweet man, always happy to see his friends at the coffee shop.  

One of my warmest memories was the way I introduced Dan to the Kindle reader.  He was continually reading with his magnifying glass, so one day I told him about my legally blind avid-reader friend & her Kindle.  Reluctant at first, he gave in when I brought my friend to Croissant Brioche & he saw first-hand its potential.  After that, we never saw Dan WITHOUT his Kindle!

We all miss him and are thankful for the time we spent with him. 

My deepest condolences to his family and all his friends - and a special hug for Donna.  His was a life well lived!

We are very saddened about Dan's sudden death. We, his friends from Croissant and Brioche are going to miss him. We always enjoyed sitting at the table with him and listening about his travels and adventures. Our condolence to you his family.

Bill Cannady told Tom and me about Dan's sudden death which saddened us very much.  We enjoyed purchasing the Southgate house from them in 1968 when he and Donna were moving to Baltimore. We loved 2145 Southgate which Chuck Thomsen had designed for his family and the Stewart's were the second owners. We send our sympathy to the whole Stewart family.

One of the earliest memories I have of Dan is his reading during the lunch hour at CM and seeing that he was taking an inordinately long time to get through a book, I asked him why it was taking so long and he answered by saying that he felt if the author could take the time to write each word, it was up to him to read each word. Such was his love of discovery. 

It is hard to think of Dan as being gone, but he travelled well and perhaps he thought it was time to try something else.
