

Dorothy Ellen Walsh Hoban passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at age 98 in Houston, Texas after a brief illness. She was born in Waco, Texas on January 7, 1925. She grew up in Waco where she made lifelong friends and was a member of Camp Fire Girls. She graduated from Waco High School in 1941 and from Baylor University in 1944. While attending Baylor, she was a member of Alpha Omega and also worked as a secretary in the office of the President of Baylor University. She has been a lifelong staunch supporter of her Baylor Bears.
After moving to Corpus Christi in 1950 following her marriage, she was a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Holy Family Guild for over 40 years, Spohn Hospital Auxiliary, Incarnate Word Associates, multiple bridge clubs, American Association of University Women, as well as a member of Sultanas and Theresians. She spent many hours taking Holy Communion to the sick of Spohn Hospital Shoreline. She served as an Extraordinary Minister at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. She received the papal honor of investiture as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. She most recently was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Houston, Texas.
Dorothy was always so busy and one of her favorite sayings was, “The hurridier I go, the behinder I get!” Her many interests included traveling both in the US (including nearly all of the Presidential Libraries) and in Europe (especially Ireland). She was an avid reader throughout her life and enjoyed attending the Corpus Christi Symphony and the Houston Opera. She researched her family history finding a connection all the way back to the Mayflower. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and especially a great grandmother. “Grandmother”, as she was known, had a unique relationship with each one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, even connecting with them through Facebook, Facetime, and Instagram. She enjoyed sharing her love of the beach in Port Aransas, Texas, with each new generation.
Dorothy truly enjoyed her home for the past 14 months at The Tradition at Buffalo Speedway in Houston where she loved making new friends and continuing to play bridge and socializing.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Edward Hoban.
She is survived by her three daughters: Susan Hoban of Houston; Ann (Donald) Montgomery of Kovar; Janet (Mark) Glaser of Cat Spring; and son Richard (Patty) Hoban of Fredericksburg and by eight grandchildren: Matthew (Lisa) Montgomery, Jennifer (Bryan) Schwierzke, Garrett (Amanda) Montgomery, Ben (Haley) Montgomery, Christopher (Gina) Glaser, Carol Glaser, William (Jessica) Hoban, and Stephanie (Luke) Rich, and William and Stephanie’s Mother, Robyn Hoban. Also survived by 15 great grandchildren: Ainsley and Palmer Montgomery, Ellison Schwierzke, Morgan, Sydney, and Addison Montgomery, Macklin and Camille Montgomery, Angela, Anthony, James, Clara, and Julia Glaser, Bradley and Walker Rich and 3 step-grandchildren: Meade and Jack Greer, Mary (Ryan) Dirting and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 6:00-8:00pm at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet Street, Bellaire, Texas.
Visitation will also be on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Seaside Memorial Park, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas at 7:00pm with a Rosary following at 8:00pm.
A requiem Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Roger Smith on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00am at St Patrick Catholic Church, 3350 S. Alameda, Corpus Christi, Texas. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park at 11:30am.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Montgomery, Garrett Montgomery, Benjamin Montgomery, William Hoban, Christopher Glaser, Bryan Schwierzke, and Luke Rich. Memorials may be made to Houston Hospice at https://www.houstonhospice.org/donate/ or the charity of your choice.
