

He was preceded in death this year by his loving wife Sally Ann Patterson and his beloved brother Robert Kizer Patterson Jr. of Raleigh, NC.
Born in Albemarle, North Carolina on March 1, 1933, Ed joined the Boy Scouts at a young age and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He attended Albemarle High School and was very active in athletics and the football team and earned the nickname “The Albemarle Mauler”.
He earned a football scholarship to his alma mater the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
After graduation, he accepted a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.
Upon his honorable discharge from military service, he accepted a position with Shell as an analytical chemist and relocated to Houston, TX, where he was employed for 33 years at the Deer Park Manufacturing Complex.
While in Houston, he met and married his wife Sally Ann (Elgin) of 46 years. He was an avid sports fan.
His hobbies included weightlifting, scrapbooking and photography.
Over the years, he continued his lifelong love of photography seeking to capture a lifetime of memories.
He has left behind a collection of photographic moments to be cherished by the family for years to come.
He enjoyed family vacations to most notably New Braunfels, TX, Florida, California, Virginia, and at every opportunity, he loved going back “Home” to his beloved state of North Carolina to see his family whom he dearly loved.
Ed is survived by his sons Edward Jr of Houston, Gregg Kabay and wife Eleanor, of Houston and Conrad Kabay of Austin, his grandchildren, Edward III and Courtney of Houston, Jennifer Barnett and husband Christopher of San Marcos, Kristin, Gregory and Jonathan Kabay, of Houston, and a host of family and friends in many states.
A memorial service will be Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Houston.
Interment will be held at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Albemarle N.C.
