Elizabeth Ivy Young, 72, of Houston, Texas passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 in her home with her daughter attending her after a long illness. Born in 1949 to Paul E. Berndt, Jr. and Margery Berndt, she grew up in West University place and lived nearly all of her life in the Houston area. She shared her father’s deep love of the ocean and adored visits to Galveston. Elizabeth worked for decades as a bookkeeper in the life insurance industry. She loved to go camping in the Texas Hill Country and read historical fiction and horror novels. Elizabeth enjoyed playing card and board games with her friends and family and always played to win. In 2012, after adopting her second beagle, Dodger, she joined the board of Houston Beagle and Hound Rescue and found great joy and fulfillment in finding loving homes for Beagles and fostering them in her own home. She served on the board for 10 years. She was known as a kind and generous spirit to friends and neighbors. She found peace in her faith in Jesus Christ and attended church online at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
She is survived by her daughter, son in law, and two grandchildren of Texas and her brother and sister in law of New Mexico and nephew of Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
