Hazel Hertel Gore was born premature at home in Oakwood, Texas on New Year’s Eve in 1920. The doctor that delivered her told her mom that she would not survive. Hazel passed away May 26, 2017 after 96 great years.
She was the first born and three boys followed. Her dad was the town's postman and her mom was an entrepreneur in this small East Texas town. Hazel's youngest brother was an "Artist" and he always said, "Hazel, you were born to be a Mother" and that is what she became... a Mom. She married Charles Gore in 1939 and spent most of their 65 years in Houston. Hazel had 6 girls of which 4 survived. Hazel and Charles enjoyed doing volunteer work at Second Christian Church in North Houston. In the early 60's they bought some land on West Beach in Galveston the week after Hurricane Carla and proceeded to build a beach house. For over 25 years, family and friends spent many summers and holidays at the beach house.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Charles. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Rocka and husband Jack, Brenda Hawkins and husband Karl, Jennifer Epperson and husband Ron, and Debra Krohn and husband Jack; and 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm, Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet St., Bellaire, TX.
