He leaves his wife Jan (Baker) Novick, children Deborah Ryan, Robert (Joelle) Novick, Joshua Novick and Jonathan Novick, stepson Justin Heiman, his brothers Michael (Joan) Novick and Stuart Novick, sisters Ruth Payne and Ronnee (Richie) Ganeles, grandchildren Sarah, Jake, Grace and Cade Ryan, Alexis and Dylan Novick, and several nieces and nephews.
Born in 1941 in Far Rockaway, NY, the eldest son of Herbert Novick and Marion (Kaminsky) Novick. In early years he attended Far Rockaway High School and was a member of the football team. He continued friendships with many of his childhood friends throughout his lifetime. After high school he went to Hofstra College and later attended the University of Bologna Medical School in Italy. After medical school he returned to New York for his residency at Brookdale Hospital before moving to Houston in 1975 to continue his practice in OB/GYN at Spring Branch Hospital and later Memorial Southwest, retiring in 2006.
Howard was truly a very bright, talented individual who loved the challenges of medicine. He was an amazing friend and possessed an incredible sense of humor. If you were around him socially, you were laughing. He was so quick with a turn of a word, was a world class joke teller and witty at an entirely different level. He loved entertaining people and his “love language” clearly helped people lighten their day through laughter.
In retirement, Howard enjoyed his children and grandchildren who were the delight of his life. He was incredibly proud of his grandkids and spoke often of their many talents…bragging like he should, on the loves of his life. He enjoyed traveling and cherished his many fishing trips to Canada with his dear friends George and Irv. While they gave him “a what for” regarding his fishing skills, at the end of the day he wasn’t too bad of a fisherman.
Lastly, Howard was a man of faith. He loved his Jewish faith and was happy to teach anyone interested about Judaism.
A devoted husband, an amazing friend, a quality guy, who will be sorely missed.
