

Kirby Patrick Sternfels was born in Klotzville, Louisiana on March 28, 1938. He died the morning of December 29, 2022 after a 20-year battle with Parkinsons Disease. He grew up in Klotzville, Louisiana and graduated from Assumption High School. He was a proud graduate of Louisiana State University, Class of 1960 where he was a member of the ROTC—Geaux Tigers! After graduation from LSU, he joined the US Armed Forces, Division of the Army and reached the rank of Lieutenant.
On July 5, 1961, he married the love of his life, Katherine “Sunny” Ray Naquin at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Napoleonville, Louisiana. In 1962, after his time in the military, which was spent in Indiana, he moved to Houston, Texas where he began his career as a computer programmer for Texaco. He was a dedicated employee of Texaco for 33 years and retired at the age of 57.
Kirby was a very active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church as an usher, collection counter and Streamliner. He was also involved in the Knights of Columbus and the Serra Club. He was a volunteer at Memorial Southwest Hospital. He enjoyed travelling the world with his family & friends, jogging, golfing, playing cards, woodworking, grilling burgers and coaching sports. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sunny, his son, Kirby Sternfels II, his wife Stephenie, their two children, Josh and his wife Mary Catherine and Savannah; his daughter Kathy Janik, her husband Lance and their two children, Katelan and Kessler, and daughter Kristy Miller, her husband Kevin; and 6 great-grandchildren: Gavin-Ray, Knox, Robin, Vivian, Lucille and Ruby.
He is also survived by his two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley and Alice Sternfels of Belle Rose, Louisiana; Julius and Sue Sternfels of Thibodaux, Louisiana as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred “Fritz” and Lucille Landry Sternfels, sister Mary Felicia and grandson, Ray Sternfels.
The visitation will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Houston on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 9:45 a.m and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Following the Mass there will be a reception at the Servant Hall at St. Thomas More.
