

Lena Mae was born April 5, 1923, in Clifton, Bosque County, Texas. She was the fifth child born to William Willis Windham and his wife, Lena Caroline Parks Windham. Lena Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Leigon; parents and brothers; Willis William Windham and William Parks Windham; and sisters, Gladys Belle (died in infancy), and Laura Adella Windham Jenson.
Lena Mae Windham married Walter A. Leigon, son of Samuel Lindsay (Pat) Leigon and Minnie May Newton Leigon, at Clifton, Bosque County, TX, March 19, 1943. Lena Mae and Walter moved to Bellaire, Texas in 1950, and Meyerland in 1962, where she was a member of Bellaire United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was very active in the Bellaire and Meyerland communities where she enjoyed sewing, Garden Club, Bridge Club, and Cub Scouts. Lena Mae was a dedicated volunteer at Methodist Hospital for 31 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, which inspired her two sons to be involved with music.
Lena Mae’s true passion was genealogical studies. Her bookshelves and computers are full of volumes of histories, albums of photos, documents, and correspondence that she has collected and shared. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution-Lady Washington Chapter, Daughters of the War of 1812, Daughters of the Spanish American War, and Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Lena Mae was preceded by her husband of 59 years, Walter A. Leigon on June 29, 2002, She made Clarewood House, Houston, Texas, her home for the next 12 years. She was active in the Bell Choir, Chapel, Chorus, and enjoyed many field trips (especially to museums and to see the bluebonnets). Lena Mae had many close friends and family, who continued to visit her and show their love for her sweet, gracious, and kind soul.
Lena Mae is survived by her sons; Larry Alan Leigon and William Lindsay Leigon; grandchildren, Kristan Denae Leigon Hinckley (Austin Hinckley, husband of Kristan), Sarah Ashley Leigon, Justin Lindsay Leigon (Adrienne Boudreaux, wife of Justin), and Christopher Glenn Brannigan Leigon; great grandchildren, Ashlyn Mae Hinckley, Acadia Donley Leigon, and Calais Elise Leigon; and sister-in-laws, Willie Mae Leigon Taylor of Midland, TX and Helen Leigon Parker of Jacksonville, FL; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery on Wednesday, November 12th, 2014, followed by a Memorial Service at Clarewood House Chapel at 11:00am, Reverend Thomas Hill officiating.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, memorials may be directed to Clarewood House, or to the charity of your choice.
