

Nancey Moreland Harris, 95, of Bellaire, died December 20, 2012, after a brief illness. Nancey was proudly “BOI” – born on the island – in Galveston on May 28, 1917, to R.E. “Bob” and Lilian Voelcker Moreland. She graduated in 1934 from Ball High School in Galveston and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Nancey worked as a secretary at various oil companies in downtown Houston. She married the late John W. Harris in 1946, and they moved to Bellaire in 1950. She spent the rest of her life as a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. Nancey is remembered for her sense of humor, devotion to family and friends, and especially her smile. She enjoyed volunteer work with the Friends of the Bellaire Library, Bellaire Historical Society, Bank of Texas and the Voluntary Auxiliary of The Center (formerly Harris County Center for the Retarded). She also loved to travel, read and spend time with her many friends. Survivors include her son, John C. Harris of Bellaire and Austin; daughter-in-law, Jane Pickle Harris of Austin; granddaughter, Allison Harris of Dallas; grandson, Joseph Harris of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staffs of Belmont Village and Clarewood House and caregivers Brenda Baptiste, Lillie Renau and Samantha Rodriguez.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, December 22 at Earthman Bellaire chapel, 6700 Ferris St. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 23 at Saint Paul Presbyterian Church, 7200 Bellaire Blvd., with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Boyd officiating, and burial at Forest Park Westheimer. A reception will be held at 1 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Bob Hutchison, Randy Moreland, Bob Moreland, Randy Pickle, Chris Promecene and Bill Tonn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Sunshine Kids Foundation, Special Olympics or Saint Paul Presbyterian Church.
