

Sr. Thomas Ann LaCour, O.P. (Evelyn Ann) entered eternal life on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Sr. Thomas Ann was born in Beaumont, TX, on March 15, 1941, to the late Carrol and Alice Marie Lee LaCour. She was preceded in death by her sister Debbie LaCour. She is survived by her sisters Stephanie Brian, Christy Champagne, and Sr. Carletta LaCour, also of the Dominican Sisters of Houston. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Sr. Thomas Ann entered the Dominican Sisters of Houston on September 8, 1959. She earned a B.A. in Elementary Education and History at Dominican College, Houston, and a Master of Agriculture in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University, Bryan-College Station, TX. She continued her studies in Wildlife Sciences through the Texas Outdoor Educational Association.
Sr. Thomas Ann served in elementary education ministry at St. Elizabeth School in Port Neches, TX; St. Mary School in Orange, TX; Assumption School in Houston; Queen of Peace School in Houston; and St. Mary’s School in Taylor, TX. Later, she served as principal at St. Mary School in Whittier, CA; St. Jerome School in Houston; and St. Joseph School in Port Arthur, TX. She then taught at the Outdoor Education Center for the Houston Independent School District. She went on to found and served as principal of the School of Environmental Education (SEE) at Camp Kappe in Plantersville, TX, which continues to provide environmental education to students in Catholic schools throughout the surrounding dioceses.
Her congregational service included her ministry as a counselor at Dominican Summer Camp, Chapter Delegate, committee member of the Educational Coordinating Team, and member of the Committee for Policies and Priorities of School Ministry.
Sr. Thomas Ann was recognized for her commitment to environmental education throughout her career. In 1992, Sr. Thomas Ann was recognized by former Texas Governor Ann Richards as one of 42 outstanding teachers serving as trainers for a statewide environmental education program. The following year, she was also recognized by Keep Texas Beautiful for her inspired leadership and initiative approach to keeping the natural Texas environment clean and beautiful. Sr. Thomas Ann will be remembered for her commitment to truth and her deep love and respect for nature and for all of God’s creation.
Sister’s body will be welcomed at 4 p.m. and the vigil service will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026 at St. Dominic Villa Chapel, 6504 Almeda Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Adam McClosky on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Villa Chapel. Burial is at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery at 1 p.m. In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters of Houston, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, TX, 77021.
