Teodoro Henry Arroyo Saenz, affectionately known as Ted, passed away in his sleep on February 13th, 2026. Ted was born in Riobamba, Ecuador, on July 18, 1951, to Alfonso Arroyo Robelli and Violeta Saenz de Arroyo.
Ted passed peacefully in Houston, Texas, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Ted is survived by his two children, Juan Carlos and Gabriella; his grandson, Thomas; and his elder brother, Alfonso, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who loved him deeply. Ted is also survived by Yvonne Kuri, his ex-wife and mother of his children, who selflessly served as his primary caregiver in his final years. He is reunited in heaven with his parents and his sister Maria Libertad, as well as his aunt Fabiola, who passed away earlier this year.
Ted attended Colegio Cardenal Spellman in Quito, Ecuador, where he excelled in mathematics and cemented his Catholic upbringing. He came to the United States to study Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University and received his Bachelor's in 1975. Ted worked as a roustabout during the summers to pay for college. Ted also received a master’s in business administration from Boston University. He spent ten years in London as a reservoir engineer specializing in the North Sea and traveled extensively throughout his career, working in countries such as Gabon, Venezuela, Argentina, Russia, and Spain.
Ted lived life on his own terms. An avid traveler with a pensive nature, he found joy in independent films—of which he had an extensive collection—and in the flavors he brought to life in the kitchen. He loved music and dancing and practiced the guitar. Ted cherished his family deeply, making it a priority to visit his loved ones in Ecuador, where he could often be found at peace on the beach. At home, he was faithfully accompanied by his beloved British Shorthair, Sancho, who survives him.
Ted’s ashes will join his mother’s at Camposanto Monte Olivo in Quito, Ecuador.
The family would like to thank the staff of A Serene Health and Sandy Olive’s Safe Haven for their care and compassion during Ted’s last chapter, as well as give a special thank you to those who took the time to visit him often during his final months.
