Our hearts are heavy with the loss of Dr Tom. He was always a joy to be around and we loved hearing about all his "trips". Connie and family will be in our prayers.

Dear Connie and family,
I trained at TCH pediatric cardiology  with Tom  1987-1990 when he ran the fellowship.  Like all the faculty, he took an interest in the fellows deeper than the training relationship. When my father died a few weeks into fellowship, Tom was very supportive. He loved to eat pizza on Fridays and hear our tales of woe.  When on the Harris County service, we would race from hospital to hospital, Tom in his Toyota Supra and me in my Nissan 200 SX. We never got a ticket. I taught Tom to perform echocardiograms on that rotation, but he did not others to know he was learning that skill, especially from a fellow. Over the years we kept in touch and on one occasion he showed in Little Rock on his mission to visit all of the state capitals.  Such a brilliant and understated man. From his understanding of cardiac physiology to his encyclopedic knowledge of airline schedules, Tom could talk about anything and always be so insightful about things you would not think he would know. Tom, Chuck Mullins, and Mike Nihill modeled how fellows should be trained and they influenced hundreds of pediatric cardiology fellows who went out and trained thousands of pediatric residents about pediatric cardiology.  Tom’s passing is truly the passing of a great era in our field.  Thanks Tom for all you taught me, especially the stuff not related to pediatric cardiology like modeling how a husband treats a wonderful wife and best friend.
