Jay was born June 5, 1971 in Bellflower, CA to Jerry and Patricia (Piggott) Cato. They preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Connor Michael and his three angels, and also, his brother, Jerry Cato II.
Jay married the love of his life, Jennifer “Jen” Henderson on February 25, 2000 in Belleville, IL. She survives and resides in Cahokia, IL.
Also surviving is his brother, Paul (Kerri) Cato of Belleville, IL; sister-in-law, Linda Cato of Granite City, IL; Jen’s family, his mother-in-law, Keitha Henderson of Cahokia, IL,; brother-in-law, Sean (Amanda) Henderson of Troy, MO; nieces, Alaina, Adelynn, Jamie, Becky, Lindsay, (nephew) Andrew, Kayla, Megan and Julie; his aunt, Martha Boley of Alabama and Michael Boley his cousin along with many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jay is also survived by the numerous children both he and Jen helped over the years and provided a loving home, support and care. Each child left an imprint on their lives forever and Jay was so proud of every child that came into their lives.
Jay lived a life defined by curiosity, humor, and a deep love for the people closest to him. He passed away leaving behind a legacy of knowledge, adventure, and unwavering devotion to his family.
He was known to many as a gifted ham radio operator and a true computer whiz—someone who could fix just about anything and loved understanding how things worked. His sharp mind and competitive spirit showed up best during games of Trivial Pursuit, where he was nearly unbeatable… except for the one legendary victory his wife Jen proudly claimed and never let him forget.
Jay and his beloved wife, Jenny, shared a love for the open road and simple adventures. Together, they took countless road trips, hopped on ferries, and sought out hidden gems—always on the lookout for a new place to eat or explore.
He had a lifelong passion for model planes, trucks, and sports cars, appreciating both the craftsmanship and the thrill behind them. Jay was also a gun enthusiast and at one time a licensed dealer.
A man of faith, Jay was an active member of Life Church in Fenton, Missouri, where he gave his time and heart to the children’s ministry. He found joy in teaching, guiding, and connecting with young people in his community.
Above all else, Jay loved his family. He was a devoted husband to Jenny, and his greatest happiness came from the life they built together with their furkids. He will be remembered for his intelligence, his wit, his sense of adventure, and the quiet, steady love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
