He was born February 21, 1936 in East St. Louis a son of Joseph and Anna Alex Southard Sr. He married Esperanza Ledezma.
Surviving are his wife, Esperanza Southard; son, Michael Southard; daughter, Gloria Hubbs; three grandsons, Taran, Charles, and Devin.
Mr. Southard was worked in Vitamin Sales until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville. Visitation will be one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
