Madeline was born October 7, 1929 in Lebanon, IL to Francis Edward Sr. and Genevieve (Mclain) Schütz. She married Morris W. Brewer on January 7, 1948; he preceded her in death on April 6, 2006. Exactly 20 years after the date of his passing, Madeline was reunited with her dear husband, Morris.
Madeline was also preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Geraldine Parsons and Francis Edward Schütz Jr.
Madeline is survived by her children, Marsha (Richard) Rohr of Smithton, IL and Ross (Christine) Brewer of Lebanon, IL; granddaughter, Elisabeth Brewer of Affton, MO and her great-grandson, Oscar.
Years ago, Madeline worked at Heer’s General Store in Lebanon then at the Lebanon Hat Factory, where both she and Morris worked and then began their life together. For many years, she was the manager of Peter Pan Nursery in Belleville, which was much more than a job for her. She loved children and cherished her time being able to teach and care for them. She also worked at TriCity Grocery Store as a waitress at their snack bar.
Madeline had a true gift when it came to flowers and houseplants, nurturing them with care and patience. Her green thumb brought life and color into every space she touched, creating a home that felt warm, welcoming, and full of love.
She cherished time spent outdoors, especially camping and traveling, where she made countless memories with her husband and children over the years.
She also had a special love for her earring collection, delighting in the many styles she gathered over the years—each pair reflecting her personality and spirit. Country music was often the soundtrack of her days, bringing her happiness and fond memories of her childhood.
Above all, she loved her family deeply. They were the center of her world, and she took great pride in the time she spent with them, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her passions, and the beauty she brought into the lives of those around her. Her memory will live on in the blooming flowers, the songs she loved, and the hearts of her family.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
Memorial donations in Madeline’s name may be made to Evelyn’s House, 1000 N. Mason Rd., Creve Coeur, MO. Donations may be given directly at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for all the exceptional care and compassion shown to them and Madeline during her stay at Evelyn’s House.
