

Maxine was born April 8, 1932 in Greenville, IL to David Bement and Minnie (Nau) Wise. She married Lawrence Matl in 1951; together they shared 63 wonderful years. He preceded her in death in 2015.
She was also preceded in death by parents; three brothers and four sisters.
Maxine is survived by her loving daughter, Debbi (Kirk) Sandberg of Maryland Heights, MO and sister, Betty Shore of Onawa, IA and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Maxine was a great cook. She and her daughter, Debbi, went to several cooking classes at Dierbergs. Learning all sorts of new recipes that quickly became favorites.
One of their favorite meals was a family recipe that Maxine learned from her mom. Made from scratch egg noodles, which they shared on special occasions, during holidays and for Debbi's birthday. Maxine tried to teach Debbi to make them, but they never came out as good for her. Maxine always cooked with love for her family.
Maxine had many hobbies over the years, like tennis and bowling. She taught herself how to knit and crochet. Later in life she enjoyed working on puzzles. She always had one out to work on. Her and Debbi would work on them together after Sunday dinner.
She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Private interment will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to an animal rescue shelter of the donor’s choice, to honor her love of all animals.
