Andy grew up in Hankow. During a tumultuous period of China, his family moved to Hong Kong and Macau before settling in Taiwan. There he met his wife, Ken-Mei Chen and they married in 1960. Their daughter Lillian was born in 1961. While his wife was with child with their second daughter Letty, Andy left for the United States to make a better life for his family.
Andy graduated Lingnan University and National ChengTa University where he studied for his Masters in Business. He worked for the Agricultural Association, an American-Taiwan Cross Strait Exchange. While in United States on a research grant, his career took a different path. Always with a keen analytical mind, Andy completed an IBM training course in computer programming at the top of the class. It was a new field and IBM eagerly offered him a full-time position.
In 1967, Andy was able to bring his family to the United States and settled in New York. In 1971, his son, Andy Jr, was born. Life was very good for Andy. He had his family with him, and a successful career in the emerging computer field at IBM. He later changed roles in IBM to become a Senior Forecaster where he predicted sales of mainframe computers.
In 1984, he was assigned to Japan and lived there for five years with his wife Ken-Mei and son Andy Jr. In 1989, after working 25 years for IBM, Andy retired and moved back to the United States, settling in Seattle, WA. He lived there for the rest of his life enjoying his retirement.
Andy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ken Mei, Lillian (daughter), James Kuo (son-in-law), Ariane Kuo (granddaughter), Aaron Kuo (grandson), Letty (daughter), Stefan Riedling (son-in-law), Katie Riedling (grandaughter), Andy Jr. (son), Samantha Lee (daughter-in-law), Jonathan Chiu (grandson), Anna Chiu (granddaughter), and two brothers in Taiwan.
