

Betsy Ann Sunich of Bellevue, Washington passed peacefully on Saturday November 22, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 87 years of age. Betsy was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Paul Sunich.
Betsy was born on April 16, 1938 in Seattle, Washington, daughter of Nelson and Maude Holmberg. She was raised in Seattle, Washington and graduated from Franklin High School. Betsy attended Washington State College/University where she met her husband, Paul. She eventually settled in Mercer Island, Washington. Betsy was an avid boater and was a life member of Seattle Yacht Club where she was the Opening Day Admiralette and volunteered on many Seattle Yacht Club committees.
Betsy enjoyed boating and skiing with family. Her other hobbies included reading, golfing and bowling. She was a Cub Scout leader and supported Shriner’s Hospital and Guide Dogs for the Blind as well as many other charities. Her other philanthropic endeavors included providing scholarships for Washington State University Construction Management students and establishing the Paul and Betsy Sunich Endowment for Student & Faculty Excellence in the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. With Paul, she was also a co-founder of the Cougar Yacht Club.
She is survived by her son Steven (Lori) of Issaquah, Washington and daughter Shelley Vanderheyden (Ted) of Washougal, Washington. She was greatly loved by every life she touched and will forever be remembered. A gathering of friends and family, in memory of Betsy, will be held at Seattle Yacht Club, 1807 East Hamlin Street, on January 17, 2026 at 1 pm.
