CLARE HRUSKA was born on the family homestead in Tabor, South Dakota as the fourth child born to John F. and Aloise (Tycz) Hruska, one of eight brothers and sisters. Clare grew up in Nampa, Idaho before moving to the Seattle area in 1943.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years - Muriel Faye; his children Dennis, Pamela, Kay (Hruska) Smith and Curtis Hruska. Clare was blessed to have three grandchildren who he cherished dearly; William Hruska, Matthew and Nathan Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers John, James, Laddie, George, Joey and sisters Agnes and Georgean.
Clare was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a “Seabee” based in the Pacific theater and helped construct facilities to support the Enola Gay on the Island of Tinian during WWII. During the Korean War, Clare was stationed in Bremerton WA as a welder. Following his military service, Clare attended the University of Washington where he studied Civil Engineering.
Clare held a broad range of executive positions over 30 years at Pacific Northwest Bell/USWest and AT&T and was proud of the continued relationships he held with many of his business colleagues for 30 years following his retirement.
Clare cultivated many interests in his life; travel, fishing, history, volunteer projects but his greatest love was of his family, especially for his wife Faye. They shared and enjoyed each other’s company in everything they did together. As Faye said – they became one. They traveled throughout Europe and the United States. Both particularly enjoyed “snow-birding” winters in Arizona, California, Nevada and their home on Maui, Hawaii.
Clare passed from complications from a fall and was at peace surrounded by his entire family.
