Cristy Johnson died at UW Medical Center on March 14, 2012. She was born in San Rafael, CA on August 27, 1959, and moved with her family to the Northwest in 1974. Always an athlete and outdoors person she threw baseballs with her brothers, played volleyball for Newport High, fished with her dad, and hiked and geocached with her husband. She earned a Magna Cum Laude degree in Food Science at the University of Washington which led to a quality control and management career in the food processing industry, notably the last 15 years with Continental Mills and a title of Director, Product Change Management.
Cristy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Newell, who died unexpectedly only last October, and by a brother, Richard “Rick” Johnson. Survivors are her parents, Betty and George Johnson of Bellevue; brother David Johnson and wife Linda Sewright; sister Debbie Johnson and husband Chris Amrhein; nieces Heather and Katie Amrhein; and nephew Steven Amrhein. She is also survived by her husband’s family including her mother-in-law, Nancy Stanford.
There will not be a funeral service. Instead the family will have a private graveside memorial in early summer. Cristy and Bob loved their dogs, Maggie, Buster, and Dudley, and remembrances might be made to Best Friends of Kanab, Utah; Fetch of Whidbey Island; or your favorite charity. Sunset Hills Funeral Home, of Bellevue, WA, has been entrusted with arrangements.
