He was surrounded by all his children, their spouses and many of their children, who had sung him "Happy Birthday" and then offered a family prayer before he peacefully returned to the waiting arms of his loving wife, Jeanne.
Born to Alma and Asenath Walser on July 5, 1923 in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, the only one of his parents 9 children not to be born in El Paso, Texas. He had three brothers and 5 sisters.
Stan served honorably in the military, developing a love of flying. He began his service in 1942 with the Navy and retired from the Oregon Air National Guard as a Lt. Col. with 20 years of service. He also had a life-long affair with water sports. He loved to swim and dive. He was also an avid boater, water skier and fisherman.
He began his work career for Standard Oil, then Heinz and finally worked for Ralston Purina until his retirement in 1986. His career choices moved him from El Paso, Texas, to Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington to Garden Grove, California to Sunnyvale, California and back home to Seattle, Washington.
Stan met his first wife, Jeanne Barker at a dance in Portland, Oregon and they were married on November 10, 1948 in Portland, Oregon. They were later sealed in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised 4 children together; Dan, Joyce, Vicki and Paul. Jeanne passed away in June of 1986 and Stan subsequently married Phyllis Severn in 1987. They enjoyed serving two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; one to London England South Mission and the second to the Church Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Phyllis passed away in 2010.
Two years ago, Stan sold his home and moved into his final home at Brookdale. There he met his loving companion, Shirley Sprinkle.
The thread throughout his life was his love of the Lord and serving the Lord. He served as a Bishop, High Councilor, temple worker, sealer and Patriarch, and many other callings. He was a wonderful example of what a father and priesthood holder should be.
He is survived by his children: Daniel S. Walser, Jr and his wife, Barbara of Rexburg, ID; Joyce E. Shumway and her husband, John, of Kent, WA; Vicki L. Walser and her husband, Andy DeMartin, of San Jose, CA; and Paul L. Walser and his wife Lorie, of Renton, WA. He is also survived by 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We bid a fond farewell into the wild blue yonder, whether it be sky or water--we love you deeply and will miss you until we meet again.
