On May 15, 1941 An De Chen and She You Zhou welcomed Feng Xiang Wu-Chen to Lian Fa Village in Taishan, China. She was a beautiful, hardworking, and strong woman. Even young my grandmother always put family first.
In 1960, she and Jing Huan Wu married. Three years later, they had their first child Bi Lian Wu. Danny Wu followed in 1966 and Sing Wu in 1970. During that time, the standard of living was rather poor and chicken was expensive. Yet, every birthday there was chicken on the table. Except one year they didn’t raise any. Sing just had a chicken egg. He exclaimed, “Where’s my chicken?” My grandmother replied, “You are eating one whole chicken all by yourself!” Such jokes were common in this family.
In hopes of a better future my grandparents and their children immigrated to the Seattle, WA in 1986. Language barrier, cultural differences, and a completely new environment did not deter my grandmother from providing for the family. That never stop, even in retirement.
She helped raise her four grandchildren. Some have grown up and started careers, others are still in school pursuing higher education. All of whom, she loved dearly. We also love her dearly in return. We sorely miss you and wish you peace.
