Helen Louise Lindsey was born in Missoula, Montana in 1919. She grew up in Kalispell, Montana, graduating from Flathead County High School. From there she moved to Spokane, Washington where she completed her education at Northwestern Business College. While living in Spokane, Helen worked as a business assistant, met and married her husband, Donald Lindsey and had two daughters. She was the President of a group who worked to establish the first kindergarten class in the area.
In 1950 the Lindsey family moved to Moses Lake, Washington where Don continued his career in banking and Helen volunteered for many local organizations. The family was transferred to Bellevue, Washington in 1961 where Helen lived until her passing on September 16, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and husband Don. Helen is survived by her daughters Kathy Lindsey and Pat Lindsey, son-in-law David Leard and her “third daughter” Sharon Meredith, brother-in-law Bob Lindsey and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was a gifted artist who enjoyed gardening, interior decorating, music, the outdoors, her daily walks and spending time with her family and friends. She belonged to the Presbyterian Church for most of her life and Overlake Golf and Country Club while she and Don lived in Bellevue. She spent 14 years volunteering her time to read for the blind.
Helen was greatly admired for her endless generosity, gracious sense of dignity, enthusiasm, perseverance, and the warmth and kindness she extended to all those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. Her top priority in life was to be a good mother. She exceeded this ambition in so many ways, providing her daughters with an exemplary legacy as well as unconditional love and support, which will live on with them throughout their lives. Hopefully, Helen’s spontaneous, engaging smile and sense of joy and wonder will remain with those she has left behind.
There will be a memorial service for Helen at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, located at 1717 Bellevue Way N.E. in Bellevue, Washington. A reception will follow at Pacific Regent, the retirement home where Helen lived for many years. It is located at 919 – 109th Avenue N.E. in Bellevue.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Aegis of Bellevue and Providence Hospice of Seattle for their loving, diligent care of Helen during the final months of her life.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation in Helen’s honor to the charity of your choice.
