Judy was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up visiting the Oregon coast with her parents, two brothers, and sister. Judy attended nursing school and got her Masters in Nursing, specializing in oncology. She spent a lifetime caring for others in their most difficult moments. She also led ground-breaking research in pain control at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Judy was also a founding member of the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society and helped start Hospice of Seattle. In addition to her work as a nurse, Judy volunteered with the Catholic Community Services and with domestic violence victims. Judy was the mother of five children, grandmother of fourteen, and great grandmother of nine. She is survived by her brothers Phil Metschan and John Metschan, and sister Martha Burns, as well as her longtime companion Marv Wallace. In her free time, Judy loved to garden and travel, especially to the Oregon coast where she continued to take her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved her family, her wide circle of friends, and we can’t express the depth of our sorrow at her passing.
