Thank you for sharing  the wonderful pictures of family gatherings. Photos are a beautiful and treasured reminder of loved ones who have left us but never forgotten.

We only see Aunt Julia at mass and she is always so well dressed. Other than the smiles and aknowledgement , we do not get a chance to interact much.

However, Aunt Julia has left a lasting impression .

I am very shocked and saddened by the news.   My very fond memories of Ms. Julia, as mother of my best friend Louise in high school, we were known to each as neighbors back in Taiwan when  we were little girls,  but it was not until our families met again years later in Hawaii that we became very close to each other. Auntie Julia had always been a very loving and caring figure in my memory. She’s always very attentive and caring to her daughters’ needs and kept all their friends close at heart.   On my numerous visits to their house,  she’s always sat down with us and and joined the girly talk.  I will never forget the glow on her face whenever she gave us her personal advice on dates, fashion, or just about anything. I remember that she’s also a great cook who always made sure that there’s delicacies to enjoy for her house guests’ sudden visit.  I will forever be grateful and remember how Auntie Julia treated me as one of her family’s close friend.

Thoughts and prayers are with Liu’s family.

It was very shocking to hear about your mother's passing, my deepest condolences and sympathy to your family.  This is a very sad moment.  I sincerely apologize for not being able to attend the funeral due to the pandemic Covid-19 situation, and please accept our condolence offerings.  I pray for your family and please take care yourself at this difficult time.

Dear Grandma,

Thank you for everything. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your warmth. Thank you for your love. Every time I came to your house, you would always greet me with a smile and make me feel welcome. Every moment with you felt like a special occasion. You treated every day and everyone like they were special. My favorite memories with you were always simple, everyday things. Maybe watching TV together, eating some snacks together, or going to dinner with you and Aunt Ivy’s family. You were always so generous and kind hearted, no matter what was happening. 
The thing I most admire about you is your toughness and resilience. Whenever times got tough, you would always find a solution and stand back up. As long as you had something to fight for, you would fight and give it your all, for yourself, and for family. And you would always give, and never ask for anything in return from us, except for our love. 
Life is about the journey, and not about the end point. And through my journey with you, you have been an amazing role model to me, and have taught me so much. You have guided me as far as you can in life, and I know you are still here to guide me in heaven. Every time I hit a wall in life, I will think of you; how you got through the tough times, and know that you are still here to guide me. And whenever I feel happy or sad, I will think of your smile and love. 
Rest assured that we are all happy and healthy, and always thinking of you. And even though you are not here with us on Earth, we know you are with us spiritually in heaven. Rest in heavenly peace grandma. I love you.

We have many fond memories of Auntie Julia.  We will treasure all the good times we shared with her, especially the dinners and Chinese New Year celebrations.  During the Chinese New Year, she always served an abundance of the good luck food and introduced us to the “dice” game.  We had so much fun during those games.  Auntie Julia always made sure everyone’s favorite dish was included in the menu.  Her warm, considerate, and caring way will stay with us always.

We will miss her beautiful smile and loving heart.

Dearest Grandma Julia,
 
Thank you so much for everything.
Everything you've done for me, the time we've spent together, the things you've given me, the words you've spoken to me, are all treasures to me.
I am so glad that two years ago I was able to go to America and spend a wonderful time with you and Aunt Ivy's family. During my study abroad, you always took care of me. We talked a lot about school, friends, travel, hobbies, and the future. I remember that we spent many weekends together. I vividly remember that we couldn't decide what to have for lunch, and in the end I went out to buy pizza, fried rice, or Panda Express lunch box. There were also times when I would call you a few times in the middle of the night because I came home late and the door was locked. Even on such occasions, you answered the phone immediately, unlocked the door, said welcome home, and let me in with a smile. We even went to the gym together. I remember you took me there, but you ended up sitting on the bench the whole time. And on the way home from Ivy's house, I couldn't focus on driving because you were snoring so loudly. It all turn out to be good memories now. I have so many other memories from my short time here. We went out to eat pancakes together, went shopping at the supermarket, played mahjong together as a family.  I remember that you were too strong in mahjong and could not win at all. The memories I have of you are too many to list.
Few years ago, you visited Tokyo and fell in the hotel room. I was really surprised and worried at that time. Then you visited Toyama, I was so glad that you were satisfied with your meal at the izakaya we took you and you said it was the best food in Japan.  And also I was happy that you enjoyed staying in our small house.

When we were planning your ceremony, I looked at a lot of photos. One of them was a picture of you holding me in your arms when I was just a small newborn baby. The moment I saw it, I am incredibly proud to be your first grandchild.
You were truly a person with a wonderful smile, kind and attentive.
I will love you forever. I will always think of you. Because that you are my family and I believe you will always be there for us. Rest in peace in heaven. And please continue to watch over us warmly from there. Thank you very much, Grandma. I love you.

Julia was a very loving and generous person, and very caring. She gave a lifetime of service. First to her family, and then to whomever needed caring within her sphere. 

We are all put on this earth to be service givers. Julia set the finest example for us all.

Part 2 or 2

After all she went through, especially during the final chapter of her earthbound journey, her greatest concern was what was going to become of her family once she was gone, and carrying a sense of regret in being unable to celebrate her grandchildren’s accomplishments and milestones with them as they grow up. However, I can say with full reassurance that they’ll take care of themselves, knowing that they’ll always have her everlasting memory in whatever obstacles they face on their own in the future. Besides, after putting up such a good fight for so long, her reward is well worth it, as she’ll finally be able to be with us again in spirit, looking down on us from above as she gets to enjoy a peaceful rest.

We love you grandma!


Part 1 or 2

Some of the best memories with grandma weren’t extraordinary, marvelous experiences that only happen once in a lifetime, but rather the daily interactions that we got to spend with her almost all the time. Her warmth and kindness were unmatched, always radiating an aura of love and care that would make anyone around her smile. Even when she wasn’t feeling herself or had her own troubles, she never failed to put others before her and always lived to make everybody as happy, healthy, and well-fed as possible. My sister Elie and I fondly look back on freshly cooked bowls of red bean soup or going with her to the supermarket to buy some ice cream on hot summer days, and all the restaurant outings that our generous grandmother offered to pay for, refusing to let anybody else snatch the check from her. When it comes to benevolence, nobody quite matches her level of charity, as she always found a way to give, regardless if it was a regular weekday or a special occasion. She was the greatest role model for all of us, and the most prized possession she could’ve left us is the precious time we got to spend with her. Her outgoing attributes continue to live on through her wonderful kids, including my mom, whose loving and supportive personality is a reflection of our beloved grandma. When the going got tough and she suffered a series of constant setbacks to both her physical and mental health, what’s amazing about her was not how many times she was beaten down, but rather how many times she continually stood back up and continued to persevere through her challenges, both for herself and to continue to be there for her family whom she cared for so deeply. 

Our family has several fond memories of Aunt Julia.   We had fun road trips to Vancouver BC, lunches, dinner gatherings, especially the festive Chinese New Year's celebrations.
 
She was very sweet, beautiful, loving, generous, thoughtful, fun and an excellent cook!

We love and miss her very much; we are praying for her family during this very difficult time.
