In 1953, she graduated and received her RN.
After a year of working at Swedish Covenant Hospital, she moved to Seattle to attend Seattle Pacific College to pursue her bachelor's degree in nursing. It was there that she met and later married Donald Lee Barker at Interbay Covenant Church in 1957.
Don and June moved to Chicago in 1959 so that Don could pursue his engineering degree. June returned to nursing at Swedish Covenant Hospital. In 1960, their first daughter, Dawn Lee was born. During this time, June was at home and the family grew. Pamela June, Jon Alan and Patrick Jay were all born in Rockledge, Florida. June was a homemaker, devoting her time and energy to her husband, children, and involvement in the church.
In 1972, Don transferred to Boeing in Seattle and the family moved to Bellevue, Washington. June was again a homemaker for the next 16 years, raising her family, taking care of her husband and being involved in the church. In 1988, she returned to nursing after several years of caring for her mother. She was offered a position at Mercer Island Care Center, where her mother had lived and then later worked at the Elder and Adult Day Services until she retired at age 71.
She was an active member of Newport Covenant Church where she led the Women's Prayer Group. She taught and participated in many Bible studies, helped with day camp, nursery, and communion and served on the deacon board.
