Leng Chhun passed away April 22nd, 2018 at the age of 84 in Issaquah, Washington. On that day, he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and those who loved him. He was born April 5, 1934 in Kandal, Cambodia to Chhun Seng and Kea Ang.
Leng lived a fulfilling life, full of joy and love. He started his life out in Kandal, Cambodia living with his parents and his siblings, Lang, Srun, Kry, and Heang. Leng attended Chinese school for 10 years in Kandal and lived with his sister, Srun. There he learned how to cook and make jewelry.
In 1953, at the age of 19, Leng married his first wife, Sriev Tuy and had his first child, Mala Chhun. Two months after his marriage with Sriev, they split and Leng went to go find a job. He finally found a job as a taxi driver where he met his second wife, Chan Long. They married in 1957, moved to Phnom Penh and had eight children, Chheng Leang, Sokheng, Potong, Huy Chou, Pauly, Pory, Pomy, and Sampan Chhun. In early 1978 Chan passed away and Leng was remarried to Civy Mak at the age of 44 in late 1978.
Leng, Civy, and his children immigrated to America and on August 13th, 1979 arrived in Washington, where they had two sons, Posa and Lenny Chhun. Leng worked for the Jewish Community Center for approximately 6 years as his first job in America. He started doing landscaping jobs on the weekends and it eventually grew into a full-time business. Leng had to quit his maintenance position at the Jewish Community Center. In October of 1989, Civy and Leng divorced and he remarried once again in 1991 May 20th at age 57 when he met Yanping Xu in China. Leng and Yanping had his youngest daughter in 1996, Leena Chhun. In 1999 Leng had a stroke and could no longer continue his business so he sold it and retired.
On February 12th, 2018 Leng was diagnosed with lung cancer. Subsequently he passed away 3 months later.
