Raymond Symeon Docter, 94, retired Seattle Public Schools educator, died on January 9, 2012. Born in Syracuse, NY, July 12, 1917, to Bertha (Rosenson) and Gabriel Docter. He was the youngest of five siblings, including Dorothy, Theresa, Jess and Gertrude. He came to Seattle with his parents in the early 1920’s at the invitation of his aunt and uncle, Harry & Esther Docter, who had moved west a decade earlier. Ray graduated from Roosevelt High and the University of Washington and later received a Masters Degree in multicultural education from Northern Illinois State Teachers College. His beloved wife of 45 years, Virginia (Slotnick) Docter died in 1991. Ray was an avid supporter of social equity issues and he loved to picnic, even in winter, with his five children, David (Alicia), Jonathan (Joy), Daniel, Deena (Keith), and Miriam. He was proud that all five children, and three grandchildren, Alexandra, Nicholas and Emilie graduated college. He enjoyed being recognized by former students from Jane Addams Junior High where he taught for 30+ years. He also had fun with being mistaken for actor Walter Matthau. Ray was avid fan of boxing, and was proud of his brother Jess who had a successful career as a pugilist in Syracuse. Remembrances to Kline Galland Home Hospice Program.
