January 23, 1933 ~August 27, 2011
Bob was born in Dunfermline Scotland, to parents Christina and George Fraser. After leaving school he served a five year apprenticeship in a Naval Dockyard, and then attended Durham University, graduating with a degree in Naval Architecture. He was recruited into the British Aircraft Corporation in the city of Bristol, where he lived from 1956 ~1968. There in what he always said was “the best thing that ever happened to me” he met Margaret Jenkins. They were married in 1965 and had two sons.
Bob was offered a job as an engineer with the Boeing Company. He and Maggie arrived as immigrants with two very small children and settled in Bellevue. Bob remained at Boeing until he retired in 1998. During most of his time at Boeing Bob worked in Preliminary Design; in his own words, “Trying to figure out what the next airplane should be”. The high point of his career came near retirement with his work on the 777.
Bob tried quite a few sports in his time including golf, and a little curling. He loved classical music, and sang tenor in a few choirs around the Northwest, including the Cascadian Choral, the Northwest Chorus and the Kirkland Choral Society.
Maggie and he were members of two Gourmet dining groups, the Eastside Encore club, and the Traveling Gourmet Dining Group ‘TGDG”
On becoming a citizen Bob became very interested in American politics, and remained so until the end.
Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years Maggie, his sons Ian and Peter, his daughter-in-law Vicki and grandsons Zachary and Tyler. Bob died of Mesothelioma at the age of 78.
The family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to the Group Health Hospice team, especially to Susan Frank RN, Marilyn Oakes-Greenspan MSW and Patti Desroches, Spiritual Counselor for their endless support and loving care.
