He was 94 years old. Born in mainland China to Tson-Wei Au and Jing-Shue Wang on November 02, 1929, he emigrated initially to Taiwan where he attended National Taiwan University. His story is the quintessential American dream. He completed his Master of Science Degree at the University of Minnesota and his Doctor of Philosophy from Stanford University in Civil Engineering. Along his educational journey, he had a daughter, Rhoda, and son, David. Settling in Arizona in 1968, he designed their first home in Phoenix prior to moving a few years later to the town of Paradise Valley. There, he and Chih Chun Au raised their family.
Always young at heart, after retirement, both he and his wife enjoyed the local senior centers, playing bridge and table tennis. He won innumerable gold medals at table tennis events over the years, including local and world Senior Games. He took breaks whenever his grandchildren came to visit, playing anything of their choosing and happily winning through conceding defeat. After the passing of his wife, he bravely sought to live life through new adventures and reconnecting and finding new friends. He remained active playing table tennis and bridge until his final day. He was proud of his kids and grandchildren who survive him (Rhoda – Matt and Marisa, David – Tyler and Emerson). He will be laid to rest at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue WA.
