Gini was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Beaverton. She graduated valedictorian in 1949, then married her high school sweetheart Gene Pfeifer on November 25, 1950. They were happily married for almost 65 years, until Gene’s passing in 2015.
During the Korean War, she worked for the U.S. Army in San Francisco while her husband was stationed at the Presidio. Her keen intellect and strong work ethic was soon recognized, and she was placed in charge of all overseas transfers for the entire Sixth Division Army at the age of only 20. After Gene was discharged from the army, she worked in banking until the birth of her first child. She then devoted her life to caring for her family. Her deep love for her children was absolute and unparalleled.
She and Gene were transferred by his company many times during his career, including to Washington, Oregon, California, and New Jersey. She provided quiet, unwavering support helping to build Gene’s career, often hosting VIP gatherings. They moved to Bellevue, Washington in 1973, where they eventually retired. After retirement they divided their time between Bellevue and Palm Desert, California for over twenty years.
During her life she often volunteered her time, helping many organizations including her church, United Way, Overlake Service League, Campfire Girls, garden organizations and many others. Gini had a beautiful soprano voice, sang in the Portland Symphony Choir, and often soloed for her church choir. She was also an accomplished pianist. She enjoyed travel, card games, puzzles, swimming, golf, tennis, boating in the San Juan Islands, and most of all spending time with her family.
She is survived by her 3 children, Rebecca (Richard) Ripley, Lisa Parkinson, and Kurtis (Kristen) Pfeifer, and 5 grandchildren. Her passing leaves a deep ache in the hearts of the many who loved her.
Her family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity "Save the Children" or the charity of your choice. Her Celebration of Life will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Bellevue, on Friday, July 11, at 1:30 PM, with a reception to follow.
