Bill was born to RET USN Captain Maxwell and Grace Shinn in Jacksonville, Florida the second of what would become a large family filled with travel, many adventures and deep brotherly sibling bonds.
After high school Bill went onto BBCC in Moses Lake and began working with family at Shinn Irrigation. He was fortunate at that young age to find his passion in agriculture also continuing in the family tradition of farming. While in Moses Lake he farmed primarily wheat later transitioning to the Yakima area growing fruit: apples, cherries and pears alongside his parents and a couple of brothers. Later years brought another move to Tacoma, Washington to be closer to his daughters.
Bill was a very active and creative man and his hobbies over the years included his beloved pony Little Bear, being his dad’s ‘navigator’ when flying, Snoqualmie Pass ski patrol, and stock car racing-mostly at the Ephrata Speedway. He also loved long drives in his sports cars and appreciated vintage apple box labels.
As father, brother, uncle, cousin or friend Bill was an inspiration with his modeling of work ethic and resiliency. He was a first call to assist and problem solve with harvests, hand lines or smudge pots, plow outs, or working on pumps and equipment. His primary God given gift was to sowing not only crops but friendships and this was shown in each of his days. Bill’s absence will be felt deeply; his kindness will echo long after.
Bill is survived by his three daughters Jana (Daniel) Quiocho, Shannon (Carsten) Shinn-Collins, Charron (Bob Sidhu) Shinn, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Siblings Virginia Shinn, Joan Marie (Scott) Neumayer, Rick Shinn, Mark (Roxanne) Shinn, Michael (Melanie) Shinn, Patrick Shinn and Mike (Ludi) Garber, numerous nieces and nephews. William is preceded in passing by his parents and brothers Max Jr. Shinn and Robert Shinn.
Bill’s family extends gratitude to the hospice, healthcare and facility professionals for their loving care and dedication to him and others.
A Remembrance Service with burial and reception following will be held Monday, April 27th at 11:00 am at Sunset Hills Memorial Park 1575 145th Pl SE Bellevue, Washington.
