Wie was born to Sanusi Antono (Tan Soey Tjing) and Sri Lestari (Lie Soei Ing) in Jakarta, Indonesia on June 1st, 1960. He grew up in Karet Tengsin as the youngest of 6 siblings. He attended Regina Pacis for elementary and middle school before moving to Kolese Kanisius for high school.
Wie and his brother were the first of the family to go to the United States. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas, Austin (UT) where he became a lifelong Longhorn. There he met Chairuna, the love of his life; they were married in 1985 and shared nearly 40 years together. Soon after graduating from UT, he started a job at IBM as a Software and Hardware Engineer, where he worked for over 30 years.
Chairuna and Wie raised their two children in Austin, Texas then Sammamish, Washington before sending them off to college in California. Their home also served as a safe harbor and launching point for their extended family, helping many family members--cousins and nieces and nephews--to start a new life in the United States.
In his free time, Wie pursued passions for athletics and green technology. A life-long athlete and coach, he found joy in teaching his children to ride bikes, play soccer and basketball, and coached both of their soccer teams for several years. Wie also loved long bike rides and distance running, completing several marathons, a one-day 206 mile bike ride from Seattle to Portland, and a 500 mile bike tour from Washington to California with his daughter. Later in life, he discovered the joy of tennis at the Central Park Tennis Club. He was known on the courts for running down every ball (sometimes ending up in the next court over) and off the courts for his big smile, welcoming attitude, the insightful guidance he offered to improve others’ play, and for being Chairuna’s biggest cheerleader during her tennis matches. Wie was also an early adopter of Tesla electric cars, always eager to share the latest in electric car technology to his friends and family.
He leaves behind wife Chairuna, his daughter Erin, his son Max, his five siblings, and his extended family and friends. He was gone too soon and will be missed dearly.
