Doris June Kinney, 78, of Wichita Falls, passed away June 30, 2018 at Hospice of Wichita Falls. Her Memorial Service will be at 1pm, July 20, 2018 at Anchor Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Bartlett officiating with reception to follow.
Doris was born August 18, 1939 in Vernon, to the late William Winfield Kinney and Capitola Mae Kinney. She was a 1957 graduate of Vernon High School and Draughon's Business College. Throughout her life, Doris was employed as a secretary by Employers Insurance of Texas, GAB Business Services and City of Wichita Falls Civil Engineering and Sanitation Departments. Later in life, after earning her Professional Legal Secretary accreditation, she worked as a legal secretary for various attorneys in the Wichita Falls area and with the Wichita County Public Defender's office.
Doris was a past president of Wichita County Insurance Women, Wichita County Legal Secretaries Association and assisted Teen Court in getting teenagers back on track with their lives. She was a volunteer for the Wichita General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, a 30 year blood and platelet donor to the American Red Cross and taught a Sunday school class for toddlers at First Baptist Church.
Many knew her as the "cookie lady", baking cookies and sharing them with her neighbors and their children. To her family, she could always be counted on to host Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and spent countless hours decorating the family home for the holidays. Doris was a crafter, creating many home decor and gift items through her love of sewing, needlepoint, counted cross-stitch and crochet.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Bob Kinney and sister, Marilyn Gamble.
Survivors include her daughter, Laura Liles; nephew, Bill Kinney of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; great-nephew, Ryan Kinney of Tulsa; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Parks; niece, Donna Thorne of Guthrie; lifelong friend, Mary Jo Maddin; dear friends, Adrian, Stephanie and Frankie Gualtier; her fur-kids, Daisy, Jessie, Jack and Joey; numerous extended family members; her church family; professional associates and dear friends.
Her love and concern for others will extend for generations through her gift of anatomical donation to the UT- Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Memorials are suggested to several of Doris' favorite organizations including Emily's Legacy Rescue, Anchor Baptist Church and Hospice of Wichita Falls.
