Alma Ruby (Villa) Romero was born on March 2nd, 1931 in Dallas, Texas and departed this life on September 9th, 2024. She was the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Castaneda) Villa and the eldest of their six children.
At the age of six, Alma and her family moved to Oklahoma City, OK. She graduated from Capitol Hill HS in 1949.
Alma met the love of her life, Frank Romero, in 1955 and they married in 1957 at Little Flower Church. Shortly after they wed, they moved to Madrid, Spain where Frank was stationed in the United States Air Force. Their first child, Diane was born there. After their return to Oklahoma, their two other children were born – Laura and Mark. Frank and Alma celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2007.
Alma worked for the Social Security Administration’s Office of Hearings and Appeals for many years and retired in 1997. She had such fond memories of her years working there and remained friends with many of her former coworkers.
Alma was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. To know her was to love her and she could always be counted on to liven up any gathering. Her grandchildren will fondly remember her holiday traditions which included making cider and sausage balls and winning a game of Boggle by a landslide.
Alma spent many summers in Dallas, visiting her grandparents Margaret and Alfonso Sibriano. She became fluent in Spanish through these visits and was able to maintain contact with her cousins in Guadalajara, Mexico. She visited her cousins in Mexico many times throughout her life. In her youth, her parents, grandparents and five siblings would drive to Monterrey, Mexico City or Guadalajara, and she visited Mexico many times with her husband, nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank; her sisters, Ann, Margy, Norma and sister-in-law, Linda. She is survived by her daughter Diane Singerman, her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and David Clark, her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lori Romero, as well as her grandchildren, Mona, Nick, Justin, Ashley, Roxanne, D’Anthony, Veronica, Marie, Miles, Shane, and Vincent, her ten great grandchildren, her sister, Frances Coleman, her brother, Frank Villa, Jr. and many beloved nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dear cat named Baby.
Alma was honored to be chosen as the godmother of her lifelong friend Stella Heaton’s daughter, Marisa Trevino, her nephew Kelly Tinkham, her nieces Nancy Allen and Kim McCasland, and her grandson Miles Clark.
The Romero family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice for their care during our mother’s illness and are very grateful to our sister, Diane, for providing close companionship to her during these final years of her life. We also want to thank Marta Torres, for the loving and excellent care that she gave our mama.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 15th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a rosary following beginning at 6:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1801 NW 18th, on Monday, September 16th at 1:30pm with burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens following the mass. Alma was a member of Saint Francis for 56 years and would sit in the same spot almost every Sunday until she was no longer able to physically attend mass.
Rest in peace, Almita! We will love and cherish you forever.
