Bonnie Lou Maddux, aged 92, left us for that art and music studio in the sky on June 18th, 2013, to be with our Creator. Be confident that many more paintings and melodies will emanate from those unlimited boundaries.
Bonnie was born in Blackwell, Texas February 10, 1921, to Edwin F. and Martitia Maddux
Bonnie met Irven “Pete” Peters in Snyder, Texas in 1939, and after a courtship period were married in 1940. She had two sons, Jon Frederic (deceased) and Raymond Lee, of Oklahoma City, who is retired from the medical field. She is survived by her son Raymond, his wife, Debra, step-children Jessica Cochran and husband Kent Cochran, Morgan Downey, step grandchildren Anayah Downey, Keegan Levi Cochran, and Alexander Cash Cochran, all of whom live in Oklahoma City, OK.
She received her education in San Angelo, Texas, and in her early years also pursued the performing arts in radio and theater. She won a talent and beauty contest in Blackwell, TX and was given the title “Venus of Blackwell.” Bonnie also sang and tap danced during the 1930s on air at the San Angelo radio station KGKL with several popular artists of those years, including “Cab“ Calloway.
In later years, Bonnie found her attraction to visual arts, and painting in oils as well as mixed media. She was recognized for her impressionistic style and was successful in art shows across the state as well as some international sales of her paintings for 15 years. She was appreciative of the many artists who shared her interests, and was pleased she could leave her creative talent for others to enjoy.
Bonnie played organ and piano for religious services, and during dining hours for resident’s enjoyment at St. Ann’s Retirement Center for many years.
Bonnie was preceded in death by husband Irven “Pete” Peters, of Oklahoma City, sister Clara Chesnut, and brother Harry Maddux, both of Texas.
