Charles R Tippit

After graduation, he attended East Central State College from 1947-1951 graduating in 1951 with a B.S. in Business Education.

After he left East Central, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was originally stationed in San Antonio, Texas after basic training in Wichita Falls, TX.

During the Korean War he served 18 months on Okinawa where he was the Chief Clerk for the Island Commander. He was Honorably Discharged from the Air Force in 1954.

Upon his return to the states, he went to work for Ford Motor Company In Oklahoma City as a member of the Sales Planning and Analysis Department. He made many lifelong friends while working at Ford. The company consolidated many district offices nationwide in December 1970 and Charles decided to remain in Oklahoma City instead of a lucrative offer in Dallas.

In 1975 Charles started a second career with the Oklahoma State Government working in various jobs in the Department of Human Services until retirement as an Administration Officer with the Food Stamp Unit at the State Office. An interesting side note – while working full-time, Charles returned to school and earned a Masters in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma in 1980.

Charles loved to fish, play bridge, taking trips to Las Vegas and playing Bingo. He was a member of the Crown Heights Christian Church where he also attended a bible study during the week.

Charles lived life to the fullest and felt this way throughout his life – “You really don’t feel that you have to beat anyone else to win at life. Since you don’t worry about being inferior or superior to anyone, you treat everyone as an equal and are accepted by all.”
