Geneva M. Penland

Geneva Mae Penland was born on July 29, 1929 in Duke, Oklahoma. She left this world bound for the everlasting on August 25, 2014 in Perry, Oklahoma surrounded by family. Geneva married Richard Jack Penland on November 5, 1948. She had been a faithful member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church since 1951 where she taught preschool for over 30 years. Geneva was a loving mom and servant of the Lord. In her lifetime she had the blessing of many great friends that she has now joined in heaven.

Geneva was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Jack Penland and her parents, Herbert and Marjorie Brigman; her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Bailey and Lila Pitson; and her brother, Herb Brigman.

Geneva is survived by her three daughters and sons in law, Debbie and Kenneth Bunch, Jackie and David Vaughan Jr., and Kerri and Rick Johnson and her adopted daughter whom she referred to as “the other one” Judy and Roger Leake. Geneva will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren; Amy Elizabeth and Lance Smith, Katie and Bret Clarke, Adam Bunch, Lauren and Scott Yockel, Rich Johnson, Merri and Dustin Barden, David Vaughan III and Josh Vaughan. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Megan Smith, Aubrey Rose McVicker and Lillian Mae Yockel.

Memorial services will be held at Bill Merritt Funeral Service on Thursday, August 28 at 10 AM followed by burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Portland Avenue Baptist Church.
