Larry grew up in Britton and graduated from John Marshall High School. Where he found his love and talent for drawing cars. Won many awards and dreamed of being an artist. From an early age, he was drawn to fast cars, loud engines, and anything that went faster than it probably should. That passion led him to drag racing and a lifetime of building, fixing, and improving just about anything made of steel.
A skilled welder and steel fabricator, Larry spent most of his life doing what he did best, including working with the family business, Stacy Welding. He was proud to be a state-certified welder, and if something was broken, Larry could fix it… usually better than it was to begin with.
Larry had the sweetest heart, a quick wit, and had an exceptionally accurate “bull shit meter” that he wasn’t afraid to use. He told it like it was, loved to laugh, and made sure the people around him did too. Above all, family was everything to him.
He married the love of his life, Shanda, on February 14, 1998 and together they blended their families and shared 28 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and plenty of stories.
Larry adored his family, treasured his friends, and left a lasting impression on just about everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Carol (Forbes) Stacy, and his son, Derrick Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Shanda Stacy; daughter and fiancé, Lauren Stacy and Brian Fritts; son, Christopher Stacy; grandchildren, Karleigh Taylor, Aidan Taylor, Kynleigh Sanders, and Shane Barker—who will carry on his spirit (and maybe his need for speed); siblings, Brenda Stacy and Shelli Wall (the favorite, and he’d want that noted); niece, Alyssa Wall; nephew, Travis Wall; as well as many friends who have their own “Larry stories” to tell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 4, 2026, at Bill Merritt Funeral Service—where stories, laughter, and a little well-earned mischief are more than welcome.
