On May 14, 2021, Milton G. Byrd passed away on the farm that he loved, surrounded by his family. Milton was born in Mason, Tennessee on April 24, 1936, to Charlie and Effie Byrd, one of nine children. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1958.
He was saved and met the love of his life at Hudson Avenue Baptist Church. Milton and Gwen (Hicks) were married on September 23, 1960. The other loves of his life were his children: Brenda Byrd, Rhonda (Brian) Hood, Scott (Pamela) Byrd, and Stephen (Jennifer) Byrd: grandchildren: Courtney, Rachael (Tim), Lyndsey (Taylor), Chelsey, Zachary, Dillon (Vita), Natalie (Gary), Nicholas (Ester), Chloe, Chase, Kaylee, Gabby and Deon: and his 10 great grandchildren.
Milton’s work ethic is best summed up by his insistence on doing his own gardening, mowing, painting, roofing, and wrangling cows well into his late 70s. He worked at the Oklahoma Publishing Company for 39 years, retiring in 1998. He spent the last 22 years farming, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Milton, affectionately known as Daddy to his kids and Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilled the love of his farm onto them. Papa and Grandma’s house was filled with fishing, hunting, sleepovers, waffle-making, watermelon, and most of all, love.
Milton was a husband, daddy, and papa, who will be adored always and forever missed.
