Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Alyce and Fred Graf, Phyllis Jean Baker, age 97, departed this world on December 19th 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK. By her count she lived in 5 states, 10 cities and 19 houses, enriching the communities in which she lived. She was college educated as an Occupational Therapist and after raising her children Kris, Heidi, and Tommy, she used her knowledge and skills in various hospitals and schools. At the end of her career, she was the director of the OTA program at Oklahoma Community College, where she taught and mentored many students. Phyllis was a creative person who assembled stained glass and would put paint to just about any surface. Described as feisty, generous, and fiercely independent Phyllis used these traits as she championed animal rights, especially for dogs and cats. By her own admission, she was a morning person who liked to clean the house, but a lousy cook. Nevertheless, she enjoyed gathering with her many friends and entertaining the Fabulous Five in her home. She loved putting puzzles together and she was an avid reader who loved to share her knowledge. Phyllis will be missed by all who were fortunate to know and love her.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Baker with whom she shared 35 years of married life and her son Tommy. She is survived by her daughters Kris and Heidi, grandchildren Duffy, Kaia, Simon, and David and great granddaughter Avery.
A celebration of life gathering will be held 2pm Saturday, January 25th at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
Her greatest desire was that no animal anywhere should suffer, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any protective animal association.
