

Richard Keith Brown died peacefully at home on January 3, 2022 with his wife by his side. Richard was born on July 23, 1935 in Dill City, Oklahoma to Sam and Margarette (Crandall) Brown. He was the 3rd of 4 children. He attended and graduated from Burns Flat High School in 1954. While he was a student he loved sports, playing on the basketball and baseball teams, and drove a school bus route his senior year. Richard attended Oklahoma State University for a year before volunteering for the draft and enlisting in the U S Army 1956-1958. During his time in the Army he was stationed at Schweinfurt, Germany where he was able to travel around Europe. After he was honorably discharged from the military, he returned to Oklahoma City and took night classes at Oklahoma City University while working full time and courting and marrying the love of his life Anita Beth Haws on June 16, 1961. He graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1962. Richard and Beth expanded their family with a son, Chris, born in 1965 and a daughter, Melanie, born in 1968. He worked for Drilling Mud and Oklahoma Brick companies before opening his own business, Continental Accounting/Richard Brown Accounting which he operated forty plus years and continued working until his death. Besides his family, Richard enjoyed activities such as square dancing with the Swinging Rebels, participating in the Walk to Emmaus, creating beautiful stained glass projects and rooting for his favorite football team, the OSU Cowboys. Richard was a quiet, kind, and fiercely loyal man to his family, friends and clients. He was a member of May Avenue United Methodist Church for many years and currently was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.Richard is survived by Beth, his wife of 60 1/2 years; son, Chris Brown of Owasso; daughter, Melanie Southerland and husband, Rich, their children, Kate and Will Southerland all of Plano, TX; brother in law Aubrey L. (Lynn) Haws and wife Linda of Owasso; brother in law Lewis R. (Rick) Haws of Bartlesville, Ok and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale and Wally Brown, and sister Sammie Black. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Encompass Health for their love and support during the past year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Hope United Methodist Church community food program.
Masks will be required. The funeral service will be live streamed from the New Hope United Methodist Church website at newhopeokc.org through their links for YouTube or Facebook.
A memorial service for Richard will be held Friday, January 14, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at New Hope United Methodist Church, 11600 N Council, Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
