On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, Rosemary Alana Novey, age 71, trampolined into the heavens as the world lost an amazing teacher, colleague, friend, sister, aunt and great-aunt. Rosemary was born on October 11, 1948 to James and Mildred Novey, and grew up in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Putnam City High School and went on to earn degrees from Oklahoma State University. Ultimately, she pursued a teaching career in Physical Education at Guthrie Public Schools where she taught for 40 years, retiring in 2011.
Rosemary was a compassionate yet strong role model for her students, and her peers always valued for advice and friendship. She was meticulous, with a tenacious spirit and a brilliant mind. Her friends remarked that they were always impressed by her strength and integrity. When she was confronted with wrong she always stood firm. She was a beloved fixture of Guthrie Public Schools and impacted the lives of the literally thousands of children.
Rosemary was outdoorsy and loved gardening activities, but mostly had a deep love and appreciation for animals. In her family, Rosemary was known as the “Cool Aunt” who always brought lots of smiles at birthdays and holidays. Rosemary would often times go overboard in creating gifts for her family, and excelled at always making others feel very special.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her father James, and her mother Mildred. She is survived by her brother Alan Sr., sister-in-law Deborah, and their three boys, James, Alan Jr., and Derrick, their spouses, grandnieces and cousins. She will be greatly missed.
