Ruth Hough Cadogan, 101, was accompanied by angels as she stepped into heaven on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019. Ruth was born in Scott County, Arkansas to Chapman Ernest and Hazel Helen Hough on January 22, 1918. She was the devoted wife of Lewis Dale Cadogan, and they were married 73 years prior to Lew’s death in 2016. They had two daughters, Jonel C. Levy (husband Scott) of OKC and Jana C. Roberts (husband Wayne) of Delco, NC. The daughters blessed their mother with 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Jack Van Doren Hough and Doris Muriel Lewis as well as her husband. Ruth earned a BS degree in Education from Southeastern State Teachers College in Durant, OK. During World War II she switched from teaching children to teaching service men about airplane instrumentation. She met and married Lew in 1943 in Kingman, AZ while he was serving in the Army Air Corps. She accompanied him back to Iowa after the war. Their first daughter was born there just before Lew finished his degree at Iowa State University. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1950 remaining here the rest of their lives. Their second daughter was born here in 1952. Ruth taught 4th grade for a while, before settling into a busy life as a stay-at-home mom. She was active in PTA and helped with Brownies as well as children’s activities at church. Ruth was a charter member of Village Methodist Church and was active in Women’s Circles. She sang in the adult choir as well as the Triple Trio choral group. Later she attended Lakeside Methodist Church and continued her active participation. In 1975 she became a charter member of Covenant Community Church in Yukon. She delighted in participating with the women’s Bible studies there as well as worship and fellowship. Her relationship with Christ was the central focus of her life, and she lived out her faith as an example to her family and many others. Besides her faith and family, Ruth enjoyed gardening and cooking, watching old movies and reading, mostly her Bible. She was strong and survived a major car accident, three strokes and three kinds of cancer. She loved to travel and organized their RV for long trips in the US. She also made two overseas trips, one to seven countries in Europe and one to the Holy Lands. Everywhere Ruth went she was known for her beautiful smile and positive outlook on life. She will be missed, but we look forward to seeing that smile again in paradise forever. Family will greet friends Friday, May 10, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Guardian West Funeral Home.
