Scott Jeffrey Bacon, at the young age of 36, was unexpectedly taken from this earth on October 12, 2021 in a tragic hit-and-run accident in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on November 16, 1984, and brought so much joy to all who knew him. He is survived by his parents Timothy J. Bacon of Kalispell, MT and Sheryl J. Bacon of Oklahoma City, OK; Uncle Rick G. Leonard and wife Deborah of Lakeland, FL; Uncle Rick Bacon of Oklahoma City, OK; and Aunt Jackie Peliti and husband Robert of Allen, OK. Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents Jack and Edytha Bacon and B.F. and Nancy Leonard. His family will hold a Celebration of Life at Bill Merritt Funeral Home on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 10:00 AM. All are welcome. From an early age Scott exhibited a strong personality and always gave his best at whatever challenge or interest came his way. He was a lover of life, incredibly devoted to his dogs, his basketball, and his friends. He would find every loose dog in the neighborhood and bring it home for us to care for until we found its home or convinced us we needed one more dog. Scott was a talented athlete and played many sports, but his love for basketball was evident when you could rarely find him without a basketball in his hands. In 1996 he was selected to play on the AAU Oklahoma Magic Team, and the team later qualified to play in the 1996 National Championship in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
He attended Mustang Schools and was very close with all of his classmates. Whenever these kids were together, they always hugged and told each other they loved each other. To watch these kids grow up was to experience the purest of love between friends. His classmates described Scott as “… the guy all of us girls wanted to be our boyfriend,” “…extremely kind-hearted and treated everyone like they mattered,” “… incredibly talented and loving young man who would definitely have given his shirt away to someone who needed it more than he did.” And a proud moment as his parent was when one said, “… he was always my Mom’s favorite of all my friends.” In October of 2002 Scott was diagnosed with Severe Paranoid Schizophrenia and struggled to find his new normal. The following 19 years were extremely difficult for him as the disease ravaged his thoughts, his mind, and his focus. His heart remained focused on Jesus no matter the demons he faced each moment. Regardless of his state of mind, he would always end our conversations with "I love you and can I hug you?” The last four years of his life Scott was able to find his happy place on the streets, as well as at the Second Chance Thrift Store where Delisa Doreen Jones became his second Mama while he was homeless. He would come and go from her store, and she was Scott’s lifeline to connect and visit with his family when he showed up at Second Chances. She always loaned him her phone, provided for his needs, and provided a place for him to lay his head where he felt safe and secure enough to call this place his home. Every day he would talk about Jesus to whomever would listen and always reached out to help others in need. He would sit in front of the store and write about Jesus, and the demons he was fighting. Scott was never without his Bible, or several Bibles, and carried a backpack of uplifting books wherever he traveled. He was an avid reader and was always happy to sit and read or write anytime, anywhere - even on the streets. So young. So special. So loving. Scott, you were a gift from God and filled our lives with so much love, compassion, and goodness. Though you left this world far too soon, you left this world a much better place by spreading God’s love to each and every one you met. You have taught us all the true meaning of “Love One Another.”
Although we are never ready and will miss you every day, Heaven has gained a very special Angel, and there is no doubt you are healthy, happy, and shooting hoops with Jesus in the gym.
Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Matthew 25:21
