

Shelby Monroe Davis passed away on July 24, 2016. Shelby was born August 13, 1931 in Bethany, OK to Monroe and Priscilla Davis. Shelby attended Classen High School, and then joined the Navy to serve on the USS Bausell during the Korean War, and earned four decorations. Shelby married Patricia C. McDonald in 1956. He graduated from Northeastern State College, where he ran beagles in field trials. He owned a champion beagle, Ralph. He began his teaching career in Commerce, OK; then moved to OKC to teach woodshop and coach swimming at Northeast High School from 1960’s into 70’s. Then, he taught Vocational Education at Putnam City High until he retired in 1986. During his career, Shelby graduated from Central State University with a Masters of Education. During the summers he was the pool manager at NW Optimist Pool. After Patricia’s death, Shelby married Dorothy Minton. Shelby was a dedicated swimmer, swimming at the National Senior Olympics. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and OKC Wood Carvers Club. Shelby was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia, his sister Mary Beth Stumpff and his grandson Dylan Bays. Shelby is survived by his wife, Dorothy and children Diana Fusco (Kennesaw, GA), Linda Bays, Shelly Fox and husband James, Macky Davis, Jimmy Davis, Sharon Anderson (Kansas City, MO) and Donald Anderson; also 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child; as well as two nephews, one niece and many grand nephews and nieces.
