

Miriam B. Montemurro passed away peacefully on January 8,2026. She was 85 years old. Miriam was born on September 22.1940, in her beloved Tupiza, Bolivia, to her devoted parents, Alejandro and Filomena Cruz. She was the cherished youngest of her sisters and grew up in a close-knit family filled with love, resilience, and strong bonds that stayed with her throughout her life.
In her early 20's, Miriam bravely immigrated to the United States from Bolivia and settled in Bethpage, New York where she built a beautiful life and lasting home. She shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Carlo Montemurro, who predeceased her on November 19,2017. Their partnership was one of deep love, shared dreams, and unwavering devotion. Miriam was a loving and dedicated mother to her son, Carlos S, Montemurro (Virginia), and her daughter Maria Silvana Dubinsky (Mark). She was a cherished grandmother to Jason Leavy (Melanie), Matthew Montemurro, and Derrick Montemurro and an adored great-grandmother to Aedan Leavy, Catherine Leavy and Leo Montemurro. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into nurturing each generation with warmth, kindness and pride. She was predeceased by her dear sisters, Luisa, Corina, Amelia, Carmen, Bertha, Etelvina, Cristina, and Yolanda, all of whom she loved deeply.
Miriam and Carlos later embarked on a cherished chapter of their lives together in Puerto Rico, where they opened their pride and joy, Italrico, a souvenir shop on Fortaleza Street in Old San Juan. Their shop reflected Miriam's most admired qualities. Her vibrant spirit. Her flare for style and artistic creativity shined. Her curiosity and genuine love of people from all over the globe had the ability to touch every ones heart which formed life-long friendships. She also had a great passion for travel and treasured her journeys throughout Europe and S. America with her family.
Eventually, Miriam returned to Bethpage, where she spent the remainder of her life surrounded by her family, memories, and the community she loved. Miriam will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, her devotion to family, and the grace with which she lived her life and most of all her undeniable sense of humor. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on January 31, 2026, from 2:00–6:00 p.m. at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, 234 Broadway, Bethpage, New York 11714. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Miriam’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart. She will be deeply missed and forever lovingly remembered.
