Born October 24, 1924, in Monticello, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Helena Terwilliger Shafer.
During WWII, Row worked at Remington Rand making propellers. She was an avid horse and dog lover and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Row took in many foster children over the years and faithfully served at the Binghamton First Church of the Nazarene as a Board Member, Choir Director, Soloist and assisted with the church’s youth Ministry. Along with her kindness, Rowena’s young at heart spirit and quirky one-liners never failed to bring joy into a room.
Row is survived by her Brother Lloyd Shafer; two children Jeffrey Fairchild (Donna) and Pamela Lavassar; grandchildren Tim Lavassar, Leah McCoy (Nate) and Jordan Dunlap (Dale); two great grandchildren Evolette McCoy and William McCoy along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years Floyd Fairchild; Brother Howard Shafer and son-in-law Paul Lavassar.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 10-11 A.M. at the Binghamton First Church of the Nazarene, 1282 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY 13901.
